So where did you end up after we all split at Ariadne's? [Hiro. You really need to learn how to start saying "hello" first before you just barrel into conversations.]

[There's a pause, before Billy speaks up in a totally amused tone. ]

Hey, Hiro! I'm doing pretty good, thanks for asking. What about you?

[ He'll change the subject pretty quickly, though. ] I'm still there. I decided to try to be useful or something.

[The eyeroll is almost audible in his tone.] Ha ha, you're hilarious. [Seriously Billy give him some credit, he's still learning how to be friends with people. But! But he lets that slide just as easily and when he speaks again he sounds almost a little too gleeful.]

Oh yeah? If you get bored being useful you should come see what I've been doing to be useful, too. Remember how I said I had a job to do? I made a ton of progress, it's ready to show out at the tenth spire.

[It doesn't even occur to him that he just offered all of that information so readily when he made Jason and Loki work for it. Oh well. Maybe it's because Billy's just (so far) a nice dude (or he feels sorry for him putting up with Loki, who even knows anymore.)]

[ Not that they celebrate, but Yule is Yule. Erik's servant drops off a box for Billy which has a metal key on the inside, for the house at Graymalkin that Billy can use, and a small series of metal sculptures of magical animals found in the Drabworld; cleg, dragon, unicorn, owl. ]

[Billy Kaplan. Billy Kaplan was still something of a mystery to Hiro but he liked him quite a bit. Billy was, as far as Hiro was concerned, in the same vein as Jason and Loki in terms of people he wanted to look after and people he was friends with. That didn't mean Christmas shopping was any easier.

So around the appropriate gift-giving time during Yule, Billy's going to receive a package with a couple of small things. There are two books (one about Treun and one about Leathaan) with Hiro's notes in the margins about neutrality of the area (which were also given to Jason but Billy would probably appreciate them more) and additionally wrapped up very, very carefully is a glass orb. Inside the orb it looks like there's a million tiny little stars. Upon further inspection, the stars are forming constellations and continually shifting.

Sometimes you can find really neat trinkets in the Drabwurld. There's also a short note.

Maybe you were right. Stars ARE pretty cool. Hope these books help, too. I've read them both twice and I think I understand things a lot better now.]

Letter; January 2702; Second Week (post a half dozen other handwaved updates~)

To Billy Kaplan, Sorcerer of Station,

I did it! I finally got the light to leave my eyes! I was practicing in front of a mirror earlier tonight like I usually do and brought the light to my eyes like I've been doing because it's really easy now, but instead of trying to force the light out, I decided to connect it to the chi paths within my body. The energy is already there, moving through me, right? Well, that energy is also connected to the elements. I couldn't make it mingle with the power of fire because I wouldn't be able to tell if it was the fire making the light. Though that probably would have been easier.

I decided to try and mingle it with the power of air and it was hard to get it to mingle. I think if I hadn't already figured out how to call on magic to strengthen the power of the elements that I already have, I wouldn't have been able to do it. But I did it! I got the magic, the light, to mingle with my chi as I focused on making the air spin in front of me. And the light left my eyes to dance in spirals with the air currents.

I've come to realized that doing magic without connecting it to my chi the way I use the elements is difficult for me. Almost impossible. It's much easier when I let the magic flow through me in the same way my chi does. Not every path is the same. Each element takes a slightly different path through my limbs, though they all meet and mingle in my core and at the seven chakras. I think I just have to find the chi paths that magic takes and treat my magic training as I have the power of the elements in the past. I have to figure out how it moves to get the effects I want from it.

I know it's not the same as magic in this world is supposed to work or magic in other worlds. I've been doing a lot of reading on magic theory, as many books on it as I can find. Which isn't a lot where I am, but it's enough. I wonder if it has to do with the shard within me. Or if it's just my own understanding of how the energies of the universe interact with each other and how they flow.

I'll have to try and figure that out, I suppose. Still, I managed to get the light to leave my eyes. I'm happy for that much.

Hey, sorry I took so long to get back to you. I've been traveling a lot over the last two months and letter writing ended up being pushed further and further back.

I can't say I know much about chi or anything, but I think it comes down to doing what works for you. So what if it's not just like the magic in this world? All that really matters is that it works for you, which it sounds like it's doing. Congrats on getting the light to leave your eyes, and the next time we're in the same place we should get together so you can show off.

[ He's in Graymalkin, probably pacing the floor of his house. Someone's looking angry, but a little relieved to see Loki. Even if only astrally. ]

Bananaphone? [ There's probably enough sass to fill the entire room, just in that one word. ]

[ Loki looks him up and down, catches the nature of his displeased expression but doesn't comment on it. not yet. there was business to attend to first, very pressing matters that he should ... most likely tell Billy. he had been trying, very much trying to be better and speaking with him.

it was difficult, because this was Billy.

[ and he holds up a finger before slipping through, a shock and a twist in reality before his feet hit the ground, the bright light of the teleportation fading behind him. ]

[ Billy's is left nameless, considering Erik has no idea what to call himself (grandpa seems... Strange), but there is a small 'G' in metal accompanying it, for Graymalkin. ]

Alas, torn apart by two different and waring worlds, they had to no refuge to join in their illicit affairs.
